Probable Cause - Some Advice

Here is some advice particularly if you are under 21 years old and driving a vehicle.

First of all due to the fact that you are living in the USA you need to always have your attorney's number on speed dial, if you do not yet have an attorney just do a Google search and save the number of a Criminal defense attorney - 99% of the time you will get through when you need to. Remember this is big business for them. Secondly have at least $2000 in a reserve account, this is your emergency bail money.

You are most vulnerable when driving a vehicle, especially late at night. You can get pulled over for any number of reasons. 'Your wheel touched a solid line' This translates to 'erratic' driving. You may have a faulty headlamp or your license plate light is out.

When the officer approaches your car, you wind down the window and he or she immediately smells marijuana or alcohol - well this is what they will claim anyway. So, guess what? They now have probable cause to search your vehicle. They may find a pocket knife, different cities have different codes regarding knives as to blade length etc. It's always a good idea to make sure none of your 'friends' have not left any contraband in your vehicle - You know what I mean. Even if nothing is found you could still find yourself subjected to a battery of sobriety tests that could delay you for a considerable time.

One final word of advice, never call 911. And oh yes, don't do drugs and don't drink and drive.
